Our old block-50 became a retirement home for doctors and the first floor was a dancing class.

My name is Maida Harris now Campbell and was 15 in 1945 I am sure you would know that my sister's boy friend Bobby Grandon was the one that rang the bell in block 50 on VE Day causing the chaotic and scary roll call in the middle of that night.
That bell was supposed to call the local militia that the Japs we’re having trouble with the inmates and a call for help

Dear Kevin,

Thanks for your message.
… had a look on the Weihsien-paintings’ website and found a mention of a Mr. Lee P J born in 1898 and living in Block 50. [click here] . Block 50 still stands on the ex-Weihsien grounds today. It was a bachelor’s dormitory [click here] . Curiously, there is not a single painting of Block-50 on the website.

Indeed, if you question the search engine for: “Preston lee” you will find many mentions of him in Mrs. Ida Talbots diary. Unfortunately, we have lost contact with the source of the information. Don Menzi [click here] who shared all his info with us died a few years ago.

Of course, I am forwarding this message to our Weihsien-group and maybe some survivor may help you with a complementary information about your great-grandfather.

By the way, I was 4 years old in 1945 and our parents wanted to “forget”. They rarely told us kids anything about Weihsien and when they died (…) all was lost. Twenty-five years ago, when this website started (…) memories slowly came back thanks to a worldwide cooperation from children, all teenagers in 1945. Thus, the Weihsien-paintings’ website. All will not be forgotten ― and not forgiven either. [click here]

Best regards,
Leopold

P.S.
You ask for a *.pdf of Ida Talbots diaries.
My browser is Google Chrome or Firefox. All you have to do is use “Ctrl-P” and print the page(s) or safeguard it as a *.pdf for your dad. I use “eDocPrintPro” to save it as a pdf but there are many other ways to do that.
Hope you manage.

Hello,

I recently found your website.
Today, my father provided me a letter which shows that my great grandfather, Preston Lee was at Weihsien.
The entries of Ms. Ida Talbot mention not only Preston, but also my grandmother Joan.
My father is unaware that I have found these entries and I wanted to see if there are PDF's of the original entries that i may be able to share with him?
I appreciate you all and the site very much.
Until today, I knew very little about my family and this has been so helpful.

Kevin
