Dear Sylvia,

Thanks for your message …

Congratulations for your job at the Wenzao University. What do you teach? To whom?

Yes, Peter Bazire helped me a lot to remember the good memories of Weihsien and regularly sent his stories to the website. You must read all about them in his dedicated chapter on the Weihsien Paintings’ website (but maybe have you found it already):
http://www.weihsien-paintings.org/PeterBazire/index.php

And, also in his mother’s chapter with all her paintings:

As for your last question, the answer is in my previous message:

To your question about the girl guides & scouts in the camp, I suggest you use the search engine on the home page and chapter pages. Scouts & guides are often mentioned in many different places in the whole website. There is a lot to read.

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We will try to help the best we can ― not only me but also the other members of the group.

Best regards,
Leopold

Dear Mr. Pander,

Greeting from Sylvia !

Many thanks for your messages and information related to the Weihsien Paintings and Weihsien Chat Group. To be honest, it is the great opportunity to start this connection with you. Since two years ago, I found a teaching job at Wenzao Ursuline University of Language and became a mother to raise a new born baby, I lost the connection with Peter Bazire. Until recently, I searched the information on internet about him, I found the memorial service held in the chapel that used to be the chapel he and his wife Isobel took me there in 2015.

Sadly, I felt so lost and recalled the days I made interview with him in his house. However, I participated with his later age in a few days. He was kind to share his memories in Weihsien camp with me. Until now, memories and experiences in Weihsien Internment Camp was still a fantastic research topic to me. That’s why I felt truly appreciated that you keep working on this website and kind to share the information with people all over the world.

Thank you for let me know that you revised and made 3 times editions during the period of 20 years. It definitely not an easy task to organize lots of memories and resources. May I know what’s your main idea for organizing the website? What’s your motivation/purpose to revise the website for 3 times? According to the Website, you mentioned about Children as innocent victims…..Would you agree that this website could be a digital space for tracing a “lost childhood”? Any special meaning for you to realize childhood and Weihsien camp? Last question goes to, could it be possible to learn some information about girl guide in the camp from Weishien Paintings?

Above all, I felt very sorry if you felt tired to answer lots of questions. However, any message would be an encouragement to me to keep walking on this research.

Best Wishes,
Sylvia

Leopold

May I say how grateful I am to you for curating and preserving this bit of history. You are appreciated.

I found you and your site while doing research for Helen Burton, an internee, and have wonderful conversations with others about her on your site.

In this New Year, I wish you joy, good health and peace.

PS if you do need anything please reach out to me and others. We want to be there for you as you have been for us.
